Position: Medical Claims Specialist

Department:  Billing

Schedule:  Full-time

Location:  Brunswick, Georgia

The accounts receivable specialist executes duties related to medical billing to ensure prompt reimbursement.  Prompt reimbursement is achieved by providing timely and accurate information, documentation, and follow-up through the collection of insurance claims for assigned payors.

Major Responsibilities

  • Follow-up on all outstanding insurance claims at 60-days from the date of service
  • Follow-up on all returned claims, correspondence, denials, account reconciliations and rebills within five working days of receipt
  • Investigate pending claims and resolve discrepancies via phone, vendor portals, fax, etc.
  • Resolve claim delays in a timely fashion with management and monitor payer acceptance of claims to ensure payment
  • Regularly speak with insurance companies regarding billing, follow up, and claim resolution
  • Verify coverage and update account demographics/insurance in the billing systems
  • Makes changes to data for incorrect claims and rebills daily.
  • Notifies billers and billing errors or corrections needed
  • Run daily, weekly, and monthly reports as directed by management
  • Work directly with billing company to help resolve claim issues
  • Additional Responsibilities as deemed appropriate may be assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and insurance reimbursement systems, including billing forms and requirements for various third party payors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of managed care networks and insurance carriers
  • Working knowledge of accounts receivable functions including CPT and ICD-10 coding
